Choir of Young Believers

Choir of Young Believers is a Danish group formed by Jannis Noya Makrigiannis. Jannis spent some time in the indie scene on Copenhagen before leaving his band and moving to the Greek island of Samos to write his own solo material. When he returned back to Copenhagen he formed the group Choir of Young Believers. “This Is for the White in Your Eyes” is the debut album. As you listen you can hear the inspiration of Radiohead and The Beach boys. The vocals resemble Robin Pecknold of the Fleet Foxes except they take a more orchestral approach. The best way I could describe this album would be with the words haunting and majestic. The album takes you on an emotional ride from a calm peace to a conflicted array of feelings. I discovered feelings that I wasn’t sure actually existed. Jannis is just a young 26 year old but is very mature in his years and writes about things that actually matter. Live, The Choir looks very different night to night. Jannis may preform as a duo or even fill the stage with 8 people playing anything from strings, bells or precussions. If you are lucky enough to be in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco or Santa Monica in October you gotta try and see this show. When you are listening to Choir of Young Believers you are doing more expierencing than you are just listening. Check out one of the singles from the album called “Next Summer”.
